| Jay Corvan is an Architect in Talbot County Maryland, the Mid-Shore Chesapeake Bay Area, specializing in historic based work for small communities. His work, which is connected to the small communities, carries on established building traditions that have made the small towns on the Eastern Shore so unique.
Having worked in many towns and counties on the Mid-Shore, Jay has become a strong and vocal advocate for planned growth that is designed to fit into the existing framework of small townscapes.
Jay’s work is usually based in communities with historic districts involving residential and commercial projects. His extensive knowledge of the historic tax credit framework in Maryland has helped clients apply for up to a 40% tax credit on historically based projects. Jay has extensive experience with commercial design, having completed numerous projects, such as local cafes, restaurants, retail stores, and churches.
Jay also writes Architectural Design Guidelines for residential and commercial applications within local counties, towns, and municipalities. All of his work seeks to identify established archetypal patterns and work within the regional character of the Eastern Shore landscape. Design Guidelines, which may be enacted as zoning ordinance, have proven an effective planning tool in raising the standard of new architecture, providing a much needed structure to work within the existing framework of towns and villages.
Jay lives and works on a small farm near Trappe, Maryland, halfway between Easton and Cambridge.
